Spyware - Usual bugs you. asking you to sign up for this and that.

Sometimes montiors websites visited and sends it to attacker to help the attacker to better catch your attention.

Malware - viruses, worms, trojans, and mass mailers

Can cause damage to system, destroy files, cause havoc

Firewall - 2 types - Stops unwanted traffic inbound and outbound

You can program a firewall to block under many characteristics like ports, IPs, or even protocols

Phsysical firewalls you hook up to your network before or after router/switch. Usually analyzes traffic by the packet(barebones of data). (data travels and is assembled again by bits %26 packets)

Software firewall is on your computer usually blocks and allows by the above charc.

antivirus - program that uploads a ".dat" file with a listing of viruses "in the wild" and blocks access to files that are infected either quarantining or deleting the file.

ZoneAlarm

TrendMicro

McAfee

are all pretty good. I have zone

A guide to network security can be found here http://www.compcentral.net/guides.php?UI...

Free security packages available here http://www.compcentral.net/downloads.php...

I recommend AVG, Spyware Teminator and ZoneAlarm.

They are one of each type of security.
