Antivirus, firewall, bot-cleaning for macbook.?

The university I'm going to next September requires me to have "anti-virus program (ie. Norton, McAfee, etc.), a personal firewall and bot-cleaning software (ie. Spy-bot, etc.) for them to connect to the university network."

I'm planning on getting a black macbook this summer, what are some programs that fit the requirements?

I am an avid mac user and I do not recommend Norton or McAffee for any computer because they can cause more damage than good. The good thing about a mac is that it is pretty much safe from viruses because macs are not targeted that much. However, it is better to be safe than sorry. One, firewall is already built into the OS. Since you will be getting a new mac, you will find it under "System Preferences" and then you will want to go to "Security." Under "Security," there are three tabs and you want to click on the Firewall tab. Under this tab you have the ability to configure your firewall.

As for antivirus software and bot cleaning software that is good for the mac, I highly recommend ClamXav. For more information on this awesome software, check out http://www.clamxav.com/

The 2 I know about for Mac is Norton's and Intego Virus Barrier
