Mouse pointer moves, but screen is frozen, and does not react to mouse clicking or keyboard?

As soon as I turn the computer on and log onto my account, the mouse and the keyboard lock up. The screen freezes and the mouse clicking does. Some of the keyboard strokes it does respond to (e.g. ctrl-alt-delete, and windows key) but nothing else. I have scanned the entire hard drive several times with two didfferent antivirus progams, but the problem still persists. I have no recently installed any new software or hardware. Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated

Install Linux or re-install Windows. Could very well be a hard drive failure or a RAM error.

call a computer tech. i never seen that happen, is your computer too old? or too little RAM?
I had this happen and took the computer to a shop to be checked. I needed a new keyboard and mouse. It worked. You could buy new ones and try it. Just keep the receipt in case it doesn't work.
lap top turn off unplug take out batt. reinstall batt. plug in power one min. turn on, this has fixed me up more than one time
If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
